Flora & Ulysses – About the Author

Kate DiCamillo

Kate DiCamillo is a celebrated American writer of children’s fiction, who has been awarded two Newberry Medals for her highly acclaimed novels, The Tale of Despereaux in 2003 and Flora and Ulysses in 2013. Although her novels’ genres are wide ranging, DiCamillo is known for her frequent use of animal protagonists and her exuberant tone and language – even when dealing with weighty themes like loss and separation. In her two aforementioned novels, we see her interest in nonconformist heroes who cannot be judged merely by appearance and whose inner value is seen through their mighty deeds.
