Island of the Blue Dolphins – About the Author

Scott O´Dell was born in Los Angeles in 1898 and was a famous author for historical fiction.
In 1960, twenty-six years after his first novel for adults, he wrote the book Island of the Blue Dolphins for children, which was translated into nineteen different languages, received the Newbery Medal. It was even nominated as one of the ten best American children´s books of the past two hundred years in 1976.
Furthermore, he was given the Hans Christian Andersen Medal, which is the highest international award given to an author of children´s books, and three Newbery Honor Awards.
In addition to Island of the Blue Dolphins, he also wrote Black Star, Bright Dawn, Streams to the River, River to the Sea and The Black Pearl – all for young readers.
